London Craft Week
In October 2022 we created a pop up gallery for London Craft Week; ‘Mother quilt and other objects.’
Alongside our second collection, the studio presented a large hand printed textile work. The piece, made from naturally dyed cotton, explored the theme 'mother.’
We began the project with one hundred workbooks, which were dispersed amongst members of our diverse community in South Wales. The workbooks were an invitation for individuals to explore the theme 'mother', more specifically the memory, feeling and experience of being mothered. In identifying and interpreting the findings, the project attempts to preserve and make visible 100 important individual reflections. The completed workbooks served as the material from which we composed a series of symbols which were printed onto cloth using our signature rice paper stencil technique and assembled finally into a large textile work; a quilt.
